Kendra Childs, a 19-year-old Houston mother, was gunned down in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday.
Her death comes after she was openly threatened by her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend.
The boyfriend of Kendra Childs came
home to find her lying on the bedroom floor at approximately 12:40 p.m.,
according to the Houston Police Department. Childs was pronounced dead
at the scene.
A Camaro with tinted windows had
stopped outside her apartment and fired several shots through the
apartment wall, witnesses told cops.
“If you can see it’s just a blank
wall, they wouldn’t have had known someone was exactly in there and it
was a very unlucky shot,” Mark Holdbrook of the Houston Police
Department told ABC 13.
Authorities described a suspect as a
black male who appeared to have a shaved head. Two people may have been
in the vehicle, according to reports.
Social media users speculated on the
identity of the shooter, but the police have not named any suspects.
Relatives say that they believe Childs was targeted, according to ABC 13.
“I feel very broken, and it just hurt
because she didn’t deserve to go like this,” cousin Angel Whitaker told
ABC 13. “I understand it was her time, but she didn’t have to go like
this. She didn’t even make it to her birthday tomorrow.””#RIPKendra” was
trending on Twitter on Wednesday as sympathy poured out for Childs, who
left behind a 2-year-old daughter.
“God this breaks my heart.. She was only 20 with a daughter & a whole life to live. Jealousy is real,” one user tweeted.
“This is such a tragedy and to see it all play out and planned out on social media is even worse,” wrote another user.
Childs worked as a cashier at Walmart, relatives told the Houston Chronicle.
