President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki,
has congratulated the Governor-elect of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki,
candidate of the All Progressives Congress, on his victory in the
Wednesday governorship election.
Saraki, in a statement by his Special Adviser
(Media and Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu, described Obaseki’s success as
“well deserved and expected by those who have keenly followed the
electioneering in the state in the last few months.”
He said, “Godwin Obaseki has proved to be a good
private sector man who is also a grass roots politician. He is a good
flag bearer of our great party, the APC, and a mobiliser who really
showed that he will be a worthy successor to the incumbent Governor
Adams Oshiomhole.
“I also congratulate Governor Oshiomhole who has,
in the last seven and a half years, diligently served the people of Edo
State and has led a vigorous campaign to sustain the APC legacy in Edo
State. The Governor has shown courage, devotion and dedication in
selling Obaseki to the people.”
Saraki lauded the people of Edo for the massive
turn-out, the peaceful manner in which the election went and for voting
for the APC candidate. He also praised the Independent National
Electoral Commission for “the good arrangement it put in place to ensure
a free, fair and peaceful election” while also applauding the
performance of all the security agencies.
The Senate President advised Obaseki to sustain
the developmental strides made by the outgoing governor, while also
reaching to all the groups and interests in the state so that his
victory could further unite the people.
