PHOTO: I would have become Kogi’s CSO if Audu hadn’t died – Millionaire robbery, kidnap suspect

At 30, Zakeri Isiaka is a millionaire and a frightening one. In political circles in Kogi State, Saturday PUNCH learnt that a mere mention of his name sends shivers down the spines of those who are familiar with his activities.
To Kogi State indigenes, Isiaka is a dreaded political thug, who killed at will. To the police, he is a combination of a daring robber and killer but to his family, he is the husband to nine wives and a father to 15 children. But the negative descriptions are all inaccurate, according to Isiaka’s statement to the police. He said he was a freedom fighter “out to rescue Kogi State from the clutches of evil men controlling the affairs of the state.”
Asked about a number of killings which he allegedly carried out in Kogi State, Isiaka said those he was accused of killing were his political foes and criminals who were after his life.
According to a source, he got on the radar of the police when he allegedly led a gang that attacked operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Response Team in July 2016 and snatched a rifle from them.
But on October 23, a three-month operation to track him down paid off when members of the IRT cornered him on the Okene–Akure Expressway and apprehended him while he was on his way to Akure, Ondo State.
He was transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he promptly gave a detailed account of his operations, which spanned several states.
A police source told Saturday PUNCH that Isiaka’s gang were responsible for many cases of kidnaps and robberies in Kogi and other North Central states.
When Isiaka was arrested, the police recovered 15 rifles along with several magazines and ammunition from him. One of the guns was the one his gang allegedly snatched from the IRT.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that the day the gang snatched the gun, operatives of the IRT were in the state to rescue a kidnap victim, Edward Amedu, being held in a forest camp by Isiaka’s men.
When the gang sighted the police team, he was said to have ordered his men to open fire on their approaching vehicle.
The police source said that in the process, two operatives of the IRT sustained bullet wounds. At the end of the operation, the IRT had lost a rifle to Isiaka’s team.
Two of his men were said to have been arrested at the time of the operation. They later led the police to where the victim was rescued.
Isiaka, a native of Odu-Ochelle in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, allegedly started off as a robber before joining militants in the Niger Delta and later became a political thug, who at a point, took control of his entire local government area.
Isiaka said he was once a farmer, who laboured for eight years till he could no longer endure the suffering and travelled to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he joined the group of militant leader, Ateke Tom.
He said, “I dropped out of secondary school and had nothing else to do but to go into farming at Iseyin, Oyo State. I did that till I went to Port Harcourt and started living with a young man. One day, I went to a joint where I normally smoked Indian hemp and saw some men discussing there. I realised they were militants involved in oil theft.
“I approached them and told them I was interested in joining them. They gave me the beating of my life. They accused me of being an informant. I was beaten for almost one week before one of them, who said he was one of Ateke Tom’s boys, finally said I could join them.
“He taught me how to handle guns and we burst many pipelines together. I was making almost N3m in each operation. After making enough money, I moved to Abuja and built a house. I bought some cars and started a car dealership. When I left the creeks, I came back with three guns, which I took to my village in Kogi.
“The sitting governor of Kogi State at the time, had given guns to thugs in the state. Because these same thugs killed my blood brothers during a disagreement, I had to keep the guns in Kogi so that I could use them to protect myself.”
Isiaka said during the 2011 governorship election in Kogi State between Idris Wada  and Prince Abubakar Audu, he went home to “protect” the votes of his people.
According to him, the guns he brought back from the Niger Delta came in handy. He said despite this, one of his friends was killed during the election.
The suspect said, “After that election, I came back to Abuja and continued my business. I am a kind man, I even bought motorcycles for people as gifts. I first married three wives.
“Before the 2015 election, thugs of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress had a clash. I had to come back home and fight on the side of the APC. That was when the APC knew that I had become a powerful person. They realised they needed me.
“During the presidential election, Prince Audu gave me N30m to work for his party.  But my younger brother, Farouk, was killed by PDP thugs in front of my father. He was picked up in his room where he slept beside his wife. They killed him and took his body away.
“When it was time for the governorship election, Prince Audu called me again and mobilised me with N20m and promised that he would make me the Chief Security Officer of the state if he won.
“He said he would make me Kogi’s youth leader and I would even be in charge of collecting revenue on farm produce in the state.
“My boys and I worked very hard. I was almost killed when I was ambushed by a PDP thug. So, I would have become the state’s CSO if Prince Audu had not died.”
Isiaka claimed that when Governor Yahaya Bello assumed office, he had made overtures to him, indicating that he could be useful to his government but got no reply.
According to him, some individuals might have scuttled his chances because of his closeness to the late Audu.
Isiaka said, “The people I fought were PDP thugs, who wanted to kill me and since APC came into power I have called on all my boys who are into armed robbery to stop because I have repented.
“Few weeks before the last governorship election, I communicated with some of my boys from Okene, who used to rob in my area.  I advised them to quit because I discovered that the people of Kogi State wanted change and they were accepting what I was telling them. I knew that if APC won, my boys and I would enjoy.
“But they refused, so, I tricked them. I told them that I had a job for them and when they came to my town, I took them to a hotel. While they were inside, my boys went to where they parked their operational vehicle and stole all their guns.
“I control all the APC thugs in Kogi State and since I repented, I have been seriously against crime.   Any of my boys who got involved in kidnapping, I personally arrested and handed over to the police but in most cases the police would release them after collecting money.
The police in Kogi State can confirm this.   After all I did, the state governor (Bello) did not appreciate my efforts. He believes that I am still in support of Prince Audu’s son, Mohammed, but that is not true.  My loyalty is to APC.”
Speaking about some of the robbery operations he was involved in, Isiaka said few weeks before the governorship election in Kogi in 2015, he and his gang robbed a vehicle carrying a huge amount of money in Abuja.   He said he made over N50m from the operation and that he narrowly escaped death as one of his gang members attempted to kill him.
According to him, one Dan brought the job to him.
“He told me that some politicians were moving money around Abuja and it seemed that the money was meant for election.  We planned our operation and we ambushed the driver and snatched the vehicle.
“After the operation, I kept three Ghana-Must-Go bags for myself and I gave Dan and others involved two bags to share.  But while we were sharing the money, Dan, who had a gun with him, wanted to shoot me. He ended up shooting himself.”
The suspect said in another operation in Okene, Kogi State, his gang made N10m.
He said he lost seven of his rifles to the police in Niger State after they arrested his younger brother, who gave one of his guns to a friend. The friend then used it to snatch a car.
According to Isiaka, he gave the guns to his manager for safe-keeping but said when he was away for the election, his younger brother decided to rent out one of the guns to his friend.
“When my brother and his friend were arrested, he led the police to my car stand in Abuja where police seized all the vehicles in it and they also carried away my seven rifles.”
Despite his situation, Isiaka has a word of advice to the government on how to curtail crime.
He said amnesty should be offered to anyone carrying a gun in the state, saying that there are too many guns on the loose.

(PHOTO) I felt safer putting 450g cocaine in my anus than swallowing it – Drug courier

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested four drug couriers at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to export narcotics with a total weight of 8.8kg to different countries.
One of the suspects, Aniebue Nnamma (50), a clothier at the Aswani Market Lagos, inserted eleven wraps of cocaine weighing 460g in his anus.
A statement by the NDLEA spokesperson, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said a second suspect, Nzube Chukwudi (37) from Anambra State, who was travelling on a Ghanaian passport with the name, Sokpe Zubbye, ingested 955g of cocaine.
Both Nnamma and Chukwudi were travelling to China, a country with a law that prescribes a death penalty for drug traffickers.
A 38-year-old musical instrument trader at the Alaba International Market, Lagos, Ugwuezumba Arinze, was apprehended with 2.130kg of methamphetamine, which he ingested. He was on his way to Indonesia.
The NDLEA said the fourth suspect, Obinna Obi (30), an aluminium fabricator from Umuahia, Abia State, had in his possession 5.2kg of Indian hemp destined for Doha, Qatar.
Nnamma blamed his involvement in drug trafficking on financial troubles.
He explained that he initially considered ingesting the drugs but feared for his life.
“I was afraid of swallowing the drug so I inserted the drugs in my anus. I was afraid it might burst in my stomach. Poor patronage in my business and family problems turned me into a pauper. But now I regret everything,” he said.
Chukwudi on the other hand, said he was promised N1m to smuggle the drug.
According to him, he worked in China as a freight forwarder.
He said the recession in Nigeria made it difficult for him to pay his bills and could not resist the lure of drug trafficking.
“Since I live in China, I felt it would be easy for me to go through security checks but unfortunately I was caught,” he said.
Obi explained that he had nothing to do with the hemp that was found in his possession.
According to him, he was an unwitting drug mule.
“My friend gave me a bag to deliver to Doha but during the screening of passengers, NDLEA officials discovered Indian hemp inside it,” he said.
All four suspects are under investigation as the agency said they would be charged to court soon.
The Chairman of NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.) said drug couriers must see beyond the monetary gains of drug trafficking as they might be courting death.
Abdallah has promised that the agency’s men would remain watchful in intercepting drugs and apprehending traffickers at all entry and exit points.

Globacom has called on Nigerians to always patronise homemade goods and services to be able to cope with the subsisting recession in the country, adding that buying goods produced locally and exporting same will create the much-needed jobs in the country.
Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator in the NorthCentral, Kazeem Kaka, stated this while speaking at the recently concluded international trade fair, organised by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in which the company participated.
He pointed out that patronising homemade goods could not have come at a better time as it would lead to enhanced revenue for the government as well as regulate the escalating value of the dollar compared to the naira.
In a statement by an official in the Marketing Communications Department of the company, Modupe Olubanjo, Kaka described Globacom as a proudly-Nigerian company which is fully-owned by Nigerians and is committed to the economic empowerment of Nigerians, especially the youth.

Hired Wives: Tricks Men Use To Get Rid Of Their Spouses (EXCLUSIVE STORY)

On the morning of February 5, 2016, 36-year-old Janet Tayese, woke up from the bed she shared with her 47-year-old husband, Oladele, as he snored away.
Two hours before her husband woke up, Janet had cleaned their two-bedroomed apartment, cooked, got her husband’s clothes ready for work and prepared their son for school.
The night before, everything was normal as they went to bed, Janet said. No misunderstanding, no hint of anger from either side and no sign of any impending marital doom.
She said, “My husband was just waking up when I left the house. I told him I had prepared his food, which I put in a warmer. I reminded him to help pick up some stocks for my shop from my supplier and he said okay.
“I dropped my son off at school on the way to my shop at Ijaiye and at closing time, I went to pick him again because his school is closer to my shop than home.  Around 7.30pm, I closed my shop that day and we went home together.”
With her son in tow, Janet did not imagine what happened next.
According to her, she was about to insert the key into the padlock on the door when she realised that the lock had been changed.
“I became confused. Who could have changed the door lock? Could it be the landlord? But I dismissed the idea because we had just renewed our rent a few months back. I quickly brought out my phone to call my husband. His number was switched off.
“I went to a friend in whose house we normally dropped our key and asked if my husband dropped the key there. Our neighbour said no.
“At that point, I did not know what to think. I again thought probably my husband had problem with the lock and decided to change it. But I thought that if anything like that happened, he should have called to inform me. After trying so many times to call him and it did not go through, I decided to break the padlock, since I knew I could buy another one.”
If meeting the door secured with a new lock left Janet confused, what she discovered when she opened the door to their apartment nearly knocked her off her feet.
According to her, as soon as she entered the sitting room, she knew something was wrong.
She said, “The few old chairs we had were still there, but I did not see the television. I noticed that his photographs hung on the wall were gone also. I ran inside the room and noticed that all my husband’s things in the room; clothes; shoes, everything that belonged to him had disappeared.
“I started calling his line again. When it did not go through, I called some of his relatives. One of his brothers who finally picked said I should keep trying his line when I told him I did not understand what was happening. But I realised he knew something when he said ‘Just keep trying to call him, he will explain to you himself.’”
Janet said she did not see her husband throughout that day and could not get any explanation on what was happening from any of their relations.
She said even though she knew he could not have packed his belongings without their neighbours seeing him, none of their neighbours talked to her on the development.
The distraught woman said she even went to his furniture workshop also at Meiran, Lagos that same day but was simply told by those he met there that her husband had not been at work that day.
Janet said nothing could compare to the confusion and panic that engulfed her that day.
After three days of trying to get an explanation and running up and down to get hold of her husband, Janet finally spoke with her husband on the phone.
She said despite her frantic demand for explanation, all Bayo kept repeating was: ‘Didn’t I tell you? Why are you surprised?’
“When I realised that he was not ready to give me any explanation, I pleaded with him to just tell me where he was so that I could come and see him. After a lot of begging, he finally told me he was with his friend at Sango.
“I decided to go there very early the following morning. I was very angry when his friend told me he had left for an urgent business. Why did he tell me to come then? His friend went inside the house and brought an envelope, which he handed to me. I asked him what it was and he said he did not know that all he was told was to deliver it to me.”
Janet, who cannot read English as such because of her limited education, did not really understand what the document she had just been handed meant.
She later learnt that, according to the document in her hand, she had been taken to court by her husband and with her consent, a divorce had sailed through.
That was the biggest shock of her life.
She said, “Unless it happened in a dream, I could not remember ever going to any court for anything in my life let alone witnessing my own divorce.”
It turned out that she had become a victim of a racket operating in customary courts in Lagos, which allows a man to divorce his wife by simply renting another woman to stand in for his oblivious wife in court.
Legally in Nigeria, a man cannot divorce his wife without the woman’s involvement in the process.
Divorce, like in many countries of the world, is a lengthy process that seeks to satisfy both parties in reaching the desired settlement.
But Saturday PUNCH learnt that through paid assistance by some individuals within some Lagos customary courts who have mastered the art of deceiving the judges, a man can simply bypass these process by renting a woman.
Our correspondent gathered that such a woman stands in as the wife, tells the court she agrees with “her husband” for a permanent separation, and pronto, they get what is termed a “Jankara divorce”.
The real woman at home playing the good wife only gets the document later saying that she had been divorced.
It turned out that this was exactly what happened to Janet.
She told our correspondent that when she took the document her husband left her to one of her younger brothers, she was told that it was a copy of a divorce certificate.
Janet said when she got family members involved and both of them were summoned to a meeting, she was surprised when he began to refer to minor issues they had in the house, which she did not imagine could warrant a divorce.
“When we met face to face during a meeting with some of his relations and mine, he said I had neglected him and that my business was all I cared for. He said I had also become disrespectful and no longer respected his opinion in the house.
“He was referring to a little quarrel we had two weeks before the day he left home. He had been complaining that my shop was too far from home and had been telling me to pack out of the place for some time. I told him that if I left without finding an equally good location, my business could crumble because I had become well known as foodstuff seller in the place. He said I should move closer to home where he could monitor me.
“We had a little argument like every other couple. I asked what he expected me to do if my business crumbled simply because he did not like the location of my shop when he did not even get me a good location instead.
“I told him this would affect my business. He slapped me for arguing and said I should not worry that I would see the result of my stubbornness soon. I did not really take him seriously. That is what he said anytime we had a disagreement.
“I did not even know anything about how people get divorce. So, I did not understand if the divorce was obtained in an illegal way or not. People I talked to were the ones who told me that the divorce was not proper since I was not invited to the court hearing. I later heard that he paid for another woman to follow him to court.”
Janet had no choice but to resort to begging her husband who has since insisted that his decision was final, despite getting both their families involved in the case.
Out of all options, she contacted our correspondent  about what she could do on her matter. Lagos State Government officials are currently handling her case.
But her case is one out of many, in a period when many Nigerian men affected by the economic strain of the present time are looking for different ways to abandon their marital and domestic duties or dumping their spouses outright.
In October, a non-governmental organisation, Family Reloaded Organisation, said more than 30,000 failed marriages were recorded in Badagry area of Lagos State alone between January and September 2016.
If there is any truth in this statistics, the magnitude of marriage collapse in Lagos can only be imagined.
Another woman, who fell victim of illegal divorce is 40-year-old Folakemi Salami, who was forced to seek help from a human rights advocacy group, the Jeshabel Touch-A-Heart Foundation.
Folakemi explained that her husband of 14 years, 43-year-old Mutiu Salam, had banned her from their bedroom in the last three years.
When he finally had enough of her, he took their three children to his mother in Ibadan and simply threw her out of the house.
According to Folakemi, on August 9, she got home one day and could not find her children and the husband.
When he called her husband, he told her to “get off my phone, I am driving.” He switched off his phone later.
Having called some of her husband’s relatives, she learnt that he had taken the children to his mother in Ibadan.
Folakemi said, “He did not pick my call until days later when I used someone else’s phone. As soon as he heard my voice, he switched off again. I then called his mother but I just asked after the wellbeing of the children and she said they were doing fine. After that day, I called her every day just to be able to speak with the children.”
But shortly after, she learnt through the calls that her children were falling ill in Ibadan and she decided to pay them a visit.
That was a visit that nearly led to the lynching of Folakemi.
She said as soon as she saw her children, she knew all was not well as they looked sickly and told her they were hungry.
“I did not get them anything from Lagos so, I told my mother-in-law that I wanted to go and buy them some food nearby. As soon as I stepped out with them, she started to scream, ‘Thief, thief! She has come to steal my grand-children.”
“If not because of my children that day, maybe I would have been beaten to death or burnt alive. They started crying that ‘No, she is our mother, she is not a thief, she is not kidnapping us.’ That saved my life as those who had started gathering on the street did not beat me.”
After the furore of that day was finally resolved, Folakemi returned to Lagos without her children but by the time she got home, she had been locked out.
“Till this moment, everything I have apart from the baby things I sell in my shop are locked up in that house.”
Folakemi said she was told that her husband had gone to court and obtained a “Jankara divorce” but that she had not seen him nor got a copy of the divorce certificate.
In the detail of the pathetic story Folakemi told about her marriage, there is no doubt that Mutiu had been trying to do away with her for a long time.
According to her, when they moved six years ago from their rented apartment in Ikeja to the two-bedroomed bungalow Mutiu built in Sango, he did not notify her.
Mutiu, a mechanic who also dabbles in car import, simply packed his things and left.
Folakemi said, “He did not tell me or the children. I was in the shop one day, when he packed to the new house. I just went to our rented apartment and realised he had packed his things alone and left that of my children and mine.
“I reported him to his family and they resolved the matter. I packed my belongings and that of my children and moved to the new house with him. But he barred me from the bedroom. I decided to sleep on the floor of my children’s bedroom while they slept on the bed.
“His family members heard about this after two years of packing to the house and they told him to allow me in the bedroom. He did. After a year, he threw me out of the room again. I was sleeping on the floor of my children’s room for three years till this incident happened.”
It was learnt that divorce in Nigeria can only be premised on the following grounds: non-consummation of the marriage (when either party rejects sex), abandonment, separation for two years prior, failure to comply with an earlier court order on marriage or sexual rights, or privileges of marriage, adultery and death.
For some victims of the “Jankara divorce,” they do not even understand that they had simply been duped into being divorced. They only seem to understand when told that the divorce paper they have been handed was obtained dubiously since they were never in the court.
One of such women, Chinasa Obi, a 40-year-old woman from Anambra State, who runs a restaurant at Akowonjo, but lives in Iyana-Ipaja, explained that she resorted to begging her husband of seven years when he handed her a copy of a divorce paper from the Customary Court, Alakuko, with both their names as signatories on it in October 2015.
According to her, she had always believed a man could divorce a woman anytime he wanted, which was why she went down on her knees to beg him.
Obi said it was after she started running around for help that she was told that the divorce could not have been obtained in a legal way because she was never invited to the court.
Like the others, she is seeking redress, but does not know what to do.
This was the question our correspondent posed to human rights activist and lawyer, Mr. Malachy Ugwummadu, on the issue.
According to Ugwummadu, who is the President, Committee for the Defence of Human Rights,  a divorce obtained in such an illegal way has serious criminal implication in the eye of the law.
He said, “First of all, we have to condemn this trend. That courts, even at an inferior level such as the customary ones, are unwittingly manipulated to give legal endorsement to such illegality is extremely unfortunate.
“Under the law, marriages contracted under native laws and customs are subject of litigations under customary courts. This has become possible because courts of summary jurisdiction where the proceedings are summarily determined based on the limited knowledge of the presiding judges.
“That is precisely why these practices may have become prevalent. But this does not detract from the criminal elements of the issue. There are issues of conspiracy there which is an offence under the criminal laws of the country.
“There is also imposition because the women being used claim to be the wives of men who are not their husbands. There is the issue of forgery, since they would have signed one or two documents. They are forging the identities of other people.”
Ugwummadu said it is  a trend that urgently  needs the attention of the police.
According to him, apart from the criminal offences mentioned above, the men and others invovled in such illegal divorces could be charged with conspiracy and obtaining the judgment of the court by false pretence.
Ugwummadu said, “Customary courts are presided over by non-lawyers and amenable to the manipulation of these people, who are bent on perpetrating the criminal acts. In the process, families get disintergrated. Innocent wives of irresponsible men are chased out of their homes on account of the clear intended fraud of irresponsible men.
Howerver, in some cases, some men who are desperate to dispose of their spouses don’t even bother with going through this illegal divorce.
They simply wake up and send them packing.
Such was the case of 39-year-old Pascaline Chigbuogu, whose husband of 13 years, Anthony told her to leave his house along with their six children.
Pascaline told our correspondent, “We were so close that since we got married, we had been using the same tooth brush. One day he just said he could not share a brush with me anymore. I quarrelled with him because of it because I felt he did not love me enough anymore. Then, he started misbehaving at home and acting strange. Afterwards, I caught him sprinkling some strange liquid in our compound. One day, not long after, he just called me to the sitting room and told me to sit down.
“He said, ‘See, if I tell you I still you, I will only be deceiving you and myself. I intend to marry another woman. You and the children need to move.’ I have never been shocked like that in my life.
“I asked him where he wanted us to move to and he said he did not know. We live in a storey building that we both laboured to build. That night, he moved his things to the ground floor and left me and the children upstairs.
“I am not sad because he is leaving me. I am sad because I made him everything he is today. When we married in 2003. I established an olive oil business and because it was profitable, he then joined me. We built our house from it and built one in the village. Everything we have was from the village.
“When he finally sent me packing with the children, he took the vehicle he bought for me. He said all his property were bought on his name including the car. The only thing I remember that my name was on was the registration of our company.”
Pascaline said she did not imagine that his marriage could crumble that way because she had never had any reason to think her husband would leave her even when he was cheating on her and even some times physically assault her when they had a disagreement.
In addition to their olive oil business, the couple also produce a herbal drink in a factory located in their residential compound at Onipanu area of Ota, along the Ota-Idiroko Road.
On behalf of some victims of this “Jankara divorce” the coordinator and founder, Jeshabel Touch-A-Heart Foundation, Mrs. Favour Benson, had approached the Lagos State Public Advice Centre for assistance as she said their cases were being handled with dispatch.
According to her, her organisation has over 17 different divorce cases which are undergoing various processes at present.
She said, “I believe this sort of divorce racket is a criminal offence that should land the men concerned behind bars.
“A mother who woke up on the same bed as her husband was suddenly told that she had to leave with nothing since she came into the house with nothing. It is terribly bad. For instance, the woman who was loyal enough to get her husband involved in her business had been pushed out with nothing. It is cases like this that make people say women are not humble when they take actions to safeguard themselves.
“There is an urgent need to beam a searchlight on the activities of these customary courts. We have a case where the husband even took the woman to court but she was simply blamed throughout the hearing. They said she was an ingrate for arguing with her husband despite everything he had done for her. She was not allowed to say anything. They called her an ingrate, awarded custody of children to the husband and she was divorced. The same husband did not allow her to take anything out of the house. Things like this have to stop.”

Kidnapped Ekiti INEC Boss Freed

The Administrative Secretary, Independent National Electoral Commission in Ekiti State, Mr. Muslim Omoleke, who was kidnapped by some gunmen at around Iwaraja, Osun State on Thursday, has been released.
The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, gave the information while speaking with our correspondent in Osogbo on the telephone on Friday evening.
His release came barely 24 hours after he was abducted and whisked away to an unknown destination.
The CP said, “I am happy to let you know that the gentleman has been freed and united with his family.”
The CP did not give details of how Omoleke was freed but said the command would soon issue a statement on the incident.
The CP had earlier in an interview with our correspondent, said the police were working hard to ensure Omoleke’s release.
He said at the time, “We are on the trail of the kidnappers. We are working hard to ensure his safe release. I don’t want to talk much on this but we are doing everything to ensure his release.”
A police source, however, told our correspondent that policemen combed some areas in Ijeshaland where they thought the INEC boss could be kept.
Omoleke was reportedly abducted at around Iwaraja in Osun State on Thursday while traveling to Osun State from Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The INEC boss was said to be travelling in his official car with his daughter and driver when the gunmen stopped them and took him away.
The driver and the daughter  were dropped but their phones were reportedly taken away by the gunmen.

I’m Still Open To Love –Juliet Ibrahim

Popular Nollywood actress, Juliet Ibrahim, is one of the ladies in the entertainment scene to have endured a broken marriage. Although her marriage to Kwadwo Safo Jnr. lasted for only four years, 2010-2014, it produced a lovely son.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the delectable Ghanaian actress said that even though she maintains a cordial relationship with her ex-husband, there is no hope of them ever getting back together as a lot of water has passed under the bridge.
“I speak with my ex-husband; it is a must we speak because we have a son together. Everything is fine between us. But there is no way we are getting back together because it is in the past and he has moved on,” she said.
Ibrahim said she is currently open to love again, stating that she does not have any criteria when it comes to her dream man.
“Of course I am open to love. I don’t really look out for anything in a man because I believe if the right person is there, God would definitely bring him my way and I would just feel it. I would just know. I don’t have a list of quality a man must possess. It also has to do with the man’s personality because from the first greeting, you can tell if we would click or not. I don’t really have so much I expect in a man but I know that he has to be God-fearing. With the kind of industry that I have found myself, you can only pray for a God-fearing man who would not listen to rumours.
There are lots of evil spirits and people who are always ready to break relationships because we are in the limelight. They feel we do not deserve the best; that is what I noticed. They just don’t want us to be happy,” Ibrahim said.

Corruption: 25 Jonathan’s Ex-ministers, Aides Under Probe

At least 25 persons who served as ministers, aides or advisers to former President Goodluck Jonathan are being either investigated or prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
Apart from ministers and aides, Jonathan’s wife, Patience, and his cousin, Azibaola Robert, who is the Managing Director of OnePlus Holdings, are also under probe for an alleged $20m and $40m fraud respectively.
Also, over 15 heads of agencies and heads of military establishments who served under Jonathan are also under probe or prosecution.
Investigations by Saturday PUNCH, based on reports issued by the EFCC in the last 10 months, revealed that the probes range from the $15bn arms scam to the alleged disbursement of N23bn stolen oil funds and other allegations of financial impropriety.
One of such persons under probe is a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, whose accounts have been frozen while some of her properties, including a mansion worth N3.58bn in Abuja, have been seized by the EFCC.
Diezani, who claims to be suffering from cancer, has been in London since May 2015, where she is also being investigated by British anti-crime agencies.
Among other things, Diezani is accused of diverting $115m (N23bn) oil cash and distributing it to some prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.
According to EFCC sources, some of the ex-ministers who allegedly received the cash from Diezani and are now under probe include: a former Minister of State for FCT, Jumoke Akinjide (N650m); a former Minister of State for Finance, Amb. Bashir Yuguda (N450m); a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb Aminu Wali (N950m); and a former Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Muhammad (N500m).
A former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), is alleged to have disbursed about $2.1bn arms money.
Dasuki was alleged to have transferred about N4.7bn to a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; who is also under EFCC investigation. Obanikoro has reportedly returned N100m to the EFCC.
Some others under probe include a former Minister of FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed; a former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro; a former Minister of Aviation, Senator Stella Oduah; another former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode; a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri; a former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke (SAN); a former Minister of Labour and productivity, Senator Joel Danlami; a former Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe; and a former Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau.
Apart from Dasuki, some aides under investigation or prosecution include: a former Special Adviser to the President on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa; a former Principal Secretary to the President, Mr. Hassan Tukur; a former Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati and a former Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Doyin Okupe.
Others include: a former Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and the Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku; Jonathan’s Aide-de-Camp, Col. Ojogbane Adegbe; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Gen. Jones Arogbofa.
The Federal Government had in June released a list of recovered loot. In a statement by the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the government revealed the recoveries were made between May 29, 2015 and May 25, 2016.
The government gave the breakdown of the loot as N78, 325,354,631.82; $185,119,584.61; £3,508,355.46 and €11, 250.
A conversion of the funds using the official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the amount adds up to N115,792,760,499.
The monies were said to have been recovered by the EFCC, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation; the ICPC and the Department of State Services.
The Muhammadu Buhari-led government added that a separate amount of cash and assets worth over N1.9tn had also been seized. However, the properties and cash are under legal contention.
The assets and cash seized under interim forfeiture totalled: $9bn, N126bn, £2.4m and €303,399.
A conversion of the worth of assets and cash seized based on the official CBN exchange rate totalled: N1,918,113,864,063.
It added, “Recoveries under Interim Forfeiture (cash and assets) during the period totalled: N126,563,481,095.43; $9,090,243,920.15; £2,484,447.55 and €303,399.17.”
Attempts to reach the spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, proved abortive as he did not respond to calls made to his telephone.

Why I’m Separated From My Husband –Temidayo Ekson

Fast rising actress and mother of four, Temidayo Ekson, has been through a lot, courtesy of her failed marriage. In a chat with Saturday Beats, the actress explained what led to her separation from her husband and how she has been coping with her four children.
She said, “From the outset, I have always wanted to get married to a man I love with all my life. We got married and had kids but marriage is not a bed of roses. I put in everything needed to make the marriage work and I made up my mind to quit acting. Before I got married, I was into modelling but I also quit the modelling gig because I saw my estranged husband as a jealous person. It is just the grace of God that kept me all through the period because I went through hell.
“I did not enjoy my marriage; I endured it instead. If I had wanted to leave my marriage earlier or I had made up my mind not to live under his roof, I would not have had four children for a man. I never said I was tired or fed up about the marriage. Despite the challenges and everything that came our way, I still stood  by him because they say behind every successful man is a woman. I put in everything needed to make the marriage work, I stopped going for parties, I did not have friends, I was a chorister in church but he withdrew me from the choir and I agreed just to keep my home. I just wanted him to be happy at all cost but he did not know my worth; neither did he appreciate me.
“I tried everything to make it work and God is my witness. I wanted my marriage to be a testimony so that when people asked me, I would tell them it was through perseverance but that was not my luck. In 2007, we had a clash and we separated for a while. That was when I met my boss in the movie industry.  When my husband came back, I had my last born in 2009 but after then, things became so unbearable for me. He sent me and my four children packing. It has not been easy but I thank God. We did not part ways because of acting. If I wanted to, I would have started acting from the minute we got married but I respected my husband. When he left me, I felt it was an opportunity for me to go ahead with my acting because it is something that I love to do.”

Yaya Toure apologises to Manchester City for 'misunderstandings of past'

Pep Guardiola sold Toure to City in 2010 and he has made more than 250 appearances for the club
Yaya Toure has apologised to the Manchester City management team "for the misunderstandings of the past" and pledged his future to the club.
Toure, the lynchpin of the City midfield in recent years, has not played since August.
Boss Pep Guardiola said the 33-year-old midfielder would remain out in the cold unless the player's agent - Dimitri Seluk - apologised for accusing him of "humiliating" the player by leaving him out of the Champions League squad.
Seluk had previously complained about a lack of Toure-branded shirts in the club shop and City's failure to celebrate his client's birthday properly. Referring to other matters involving Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany, Seluk said Guardiola was treating players "like dogs".
But on Friday morning, Toure issued a statement, saying: "I wish to apologise - on behalf of myself and those who represent me - to the management team and all those working at the club for the misunderstandings from the past.
"Those statements do not represent my views on the club or the people who work there. I have nothing but respect for Manchester City and only wish the best for the football club.
"I am immensely proud to have played a part in the club's history and want to help City succeed further. I live to play football and entertain the fans.
"On that note, I would like to thank all of the fans for their messages through this difficult period. This means a great deal to me and my family."

KAFFY IS JUST SEEKING ATTENTION –DAVIDO’S MANAGER

Many Nigerians woke up to a rude shock on Wednesday when video dance queen, Kaffy, posted on her social media an account blasting Davido for refusing the services of dancers at the last minute.
The dance queen called the pop star various unprintable names and claimed that Nigerian musicians have no regard for dancers. Although she has apologised for using profane words, she did not really apologise for the insults she rained on the pop star.
Davido’s manager, Kamal Ajiboye, in an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats said  Kaffy was seeking for attention which he said the camp would not give her.
He said, “I am not aware of any problem between Davido and Kaffy. Davido said that he didn’t need dancers for his performance and I don’t see how that is a problem. We saw what she posted online but we chose to ignore it because we are too busy to comment on such. Davido does not have any particular dancer that he works with. During the particular show, while he was about to perform, the organisers wanted to include dancers with his performance and he declined because the stage would not be big enough for him and the dancers to perform. I don’t know how that should be anybody’s problem.
“During a show that he had at Eko Hotel, he had about 30 dancers on stage with him. If he does not have regard for dancers, would he have employed their services? People just like to seek for attention and we would not give it to them. The only thing I can think of is that she is just seeking for attention. I mean they wanted to put dancers on his stage and all Davido said was that he did not want. How is that anyone’s problem? I think you should call Kaffy and ask if she has any problem with Davido.”

SOME PEOPLE THOUGHT I WAS IMPOTENT –SEYILAW

Not just a few knew that comedian, Seyi Law and his wife, Ebere, went through emotional trauma sometime ago when they lost their child. But now, as his wife was delivered of a baby recently, the comedian is in cloud nine.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the singer explained that even before he had the child that died, some people already tagged him impotent.
“The fact that we lost a child was very tough. Sometimes when you post something on the social media, people wonder why you bring your family issue to the social media. What they do not know is that you just want some words of encouragement. Sometimes you really cannot control the way bad news spreads. I have heard people say things like I cannot get a woman pregnant. When the news came out that I lost my child, it was more like a confirmation that I am a man. But by the special grace of God, I have another child now. What made that very painful was the fact that when we lost the baby, I did not know what to tell my wife and how to console her and that was a very difficult time for me. I needed to rely on the words of encouragement from people to stay strong for both myself and my wife,” he said.
The comedian told Saturday Beats that although it was a tough period for his family, he and his wife had to be strong for each other during their trying times.
“One of the things I did was to take a lot of vacation and I spent more time with my wife. We went to different places. We travelled out of the country and visited several interesting places. I gave my wife constant reassurance that she is the mother of my children. There was a Mother’s Day celebration where we took a trip to a resort and I told her that I was celebrating Mother’s Day with the mother of my children. This was to encourage her and the fact that she is also a strong person helped. I think she is even stronger than I am in the sense that you cannot get into a woman’s heart but a woman that goes through such pain and still goes into the kitchen to prepare food for her husband says a lot. You see her smiling and the love and affection she showed me gave me no other choice but to be strong. I think I am the emotional one between us. I also tried to keep the memory of the lost child away from her. I made sure we did not have the picture of the baby and I tried to also watch her at night to ensure that she was not crying because I knew that was when something like that could happen,” said Seyi Law.
The humour merchant said that he is the happiest man on earth as he is a proud father. He said that his happiness cannot be quantified.
“I am very excited that I am a proud father. I remember that one day in my church, they were doing a programme tagged, ‘Parenting in the 21st century’. When I was telling someone about it, I said that the programme was for parents like us. The excitement is so much and I am very happy about it. I am grateful to God and I cannot quantify my joy,” he said.

2017 Budget: ‘Empty’ MTEF Causing Delay, Says Senate

The preparation of the 2017 budget suffered another setback at the Senate on Thursday, as the upper chamber of the National Assembly took a swipe at the Executive for blaming lawmakers for the delay in the process.
The Senate specifically criticised the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udo Udoma, of reportedly blaming the legislature for not making the Executive to meet the October target of sending the 2017 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly.
Udoma was quoted by a national newspaper as saying the lawmakers’ failure to give the 2017-2019 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper was delaying the laying of the Appropriation Bill before the Senate.
Leader of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume, while raising a point of order during Thursday’s plenary, faulted the minister on what he said in the story, which was titled: ‘Budget 2017: Blame National Assembly for failure to meet October target’.
The minister was quoted as stating that the suspension of the debate on the MTEF and FSP, which would be the foundation for the budget, had stalled his ministry’s plan to lay the 2017 budget estimates before the National Assembly.
Ndume, however, said, “We received the MTEF on 30th of September instead of submitting it according to the law not later than the 1st of September. That is not even the problem. I have a copy (of the MTEF and FSP), I went through (it) and the copies have been circulated. I talked to some experts. Even in this chamber, we have people we can call experts.
“If you look at this document that they call the MTEF, it is empty; it is empty and it doesn’t contain anything. If you have nothing, how do you consider nothing?
“Going through (it) and knowing that it is empty, on October 19, this is the letter I wrote to the Minister of Budget and National Planning. In the third paragraph, I stated, ‘To enable the Senate objectively to review the MTEF from a holistic fiscal perspective, we deem it necessary to invite you to a meeting to brief the leadership of the Senate on Tuesday, November 1.’ But the minister failed to turn up.
“Before then, I said, ‘You are requested to please send the following documents ahead of the meeting’, because that is what will make us to have something to consider. I said, ‘(a) the Medium-Term Development Plan (even a draft copy) upon which the 2017-2019 MTEF is founded;’ you know that is important.
“Secondly, I requested for a comprehensive report on the implementation of the 2016 budget (as of the third quarter, that is, September 30); that is also an important ingredient.”
The Senate Leader also requested for “all fiscal rates, taxes, charges, etc., used to derive the projected revenue in the 2017-2019  MTEF; because we don’t know what is there and how they did arrive at those figures.”
He further asked for “a report on the structure/composition of the debt, funding sources; how the borrowed funds are to be spent as well as repayment plan and schedule.”
Ndume stated, “Up until now, there is no communication as to that (the requests).”
He also made reference to the irregularities in President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the National Assembly seeking approval for the Federal Government’s 2016-2018 external borrowing plan, which he said “was thrown out at last.”
Ndume said, “We cannot afford to start the 2017 budget process with his blame game. This Senate is the Nigerian Senate. This Senate especially, we have the opposition that is cooperating with us and we have the majority in this Senate.
“It is not like we are working against the government but we know what we are doing and we should do it right. When they bring nothing and we ask for something so that we will do it properly, they spoke to the newspaper to start blaming the National Assembly. I think it is important we discuss this and advise ourselves properly.”

INEC bows to Senate, fixes December 10 for Rivers rerun

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday in Abuja said that it had fixed December 10 for rerun elections in Rivers State.
The announcement, which was made by the Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu, came a day after the Senate threatened to abandon plenary if the commission refused to organise the election and other rerun elections in the country before December 10.
The Senate had said that the refusal of the electoral body to conduct the elections was depriving the people of the areas involved of having representatives in both chambers of the National Assembly.
Though INEC said it was not moved by the threat of the boycott of the plenary, it however said that the fixing of the dates for the elections was done after what it described as “extensive consultations.”
Rivers State does not have a single senator in the Senate, while the state still has some vacant seats in the House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly.
Apart  from Rivers State, Ogakwu said that the commission would conduct elections in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory.
The commission stated that election into a vacant seat in the House of Representatives from Lagos State and the  councillorship election in the FCT, according to Ogawku, would hold also on December 3.
The commission had on Wednesday demanded an undertaking from political parties that they would not cause any mayhem anytime it fixed the rerun elections in Rivers State.
It said there was no way it would be able to conduct a free, fair, credible and acceptable election in the state when political parties were not ready to  sheathe their swords.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the commission, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated the commission’s position in an interview with our correspondent.
Oyekanmi said though the commission appreciated the Senate’s concern, the electoral body did not need the ultimatum before doing the right thing.
He said, “If you can recall, there was an election in March this year in the state during which violence was unleashed on our officials.

CUSTOMS OFFICERS, SOLDIERS CLASH IN LAGOS

There was tension at the Nigerian Army Shopping Arena, Bolade, in the Oshodi area of Lagos State on Thursday as some officers of the Nigeria Customs Service clashed with soldiers in the market.
Our correspondent gathered that trouble started when the customs officers traced six missing containers, suspected to have carried contraband, to the market and moved to impound them.
It was learnt that soldiers at the market prevented the customs officers from impounding the containers, which were driven into the shopping arena, commonly called Arena Market.

It was learnt that there was panic in the market, as the customs officers engaged the soldiers in a free-for-all, during which business activities were disrupted.
When our correspondent got to the area around 12pm, police vans, NCS vehicles and military vans were observed in the market.
A resident, who identified himself only as Michael, said the soldiers insisted that the customs officers did not have the right to impound anything in the military market.
He said, “The clash happened around 9am. The customs men had wanted to impound some containers; but some soldiers resisted the move, which led to a clash between the two security agencies.
“Nobody died or sustained injury, but there was tension in the market. Business activities were disrupted. It took the intervention of the Commanding Officer, 9 Brigade, to quell the fracas, as he gave an order that his men should allow customs officers to do their job.”
The spokesperson for the 81 division of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Samuel Kingsley, said the customs men initially did not “follow due procedures,” adding that they were allowed to take the containers away when due process was followed.
He said, “The customs men trailed some contraband goods. But due process was not followed. When they got their procedures right, we allowed them to have access to the place.
“There are procedures. You don’t just enter the barracks without permission. We are not a lawless society and we do not allow such things. So, when the customs got their procedures right, they were allowed in. There was no commotion.”
The Public Relations Officer, NCS, Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja, Lagos State, Jerry Attah, confirmed that the customs seized six containers from the market, adding that the military men assisted in the arrest, and there was no clash.
He said, “We have a good working relationship with the military. Based on information, our men trailed six 40-foot containers to the Arena Market, and we contacted the Commanding Officer of the 9 Brigade. They gave us maximum cooperation and assistance.
“There was no commotion. We are waiting for the owners of the containers to come before we will open the containers for examination.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, had yet to reply to a text message sent to her phone on the incident.

I FELT LIKE RUNNING AWAY AFTER I TOOK OVER - BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday admitted that at a point after he was inaugurated as the President in May 2015, he felt like running away.
He said he would have taken the decision because of the myriad of problems his administration inherited from past governments.
Buhari said this while addressing 68 Nigerians who participated in the Senior Executive Course 38 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, and the institute’s management staff at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

My Problem Is Spiritual – Driver Arrested For Failed Suicide

A driver, Jacob Elegbede, who attempted to hang himself behind a primary school in Zanda, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has blamed spiritual forces, saying  he did not know what came over him.
The 48-year old father of one stated that he was not himself when he climbed a tree in an attempt to commit suicide in a nearby bush, noting that he simply found himself on the tree along with the rope he wanted to use to kill himself.
Elegbede, who worked with a construction company in Abuja, twice attempted to hang himself on Saturday and Sunday, prompting his neighbours to alert policemen, who arrested him.
Before the suicide attempt, he had written a note in which took responsibility for the planned crime and also asked for forgiveness from his family and neighbours.
Elegbede, who hails from Badagry, Lagos, also listed the names of his creditors whom he owed various amounts, craving their forgiveness.
The suspect, in an interview with our correspondence at the FCT Police Command, Abuja, on Wednesday, explained that his problem began about 18 months ago, when he started suffering from insomnia.
He said his situation got worse when he started having strange dreams and suffering from hot flashes in his head and chest.
He said, “I also started having strange dreams in which I find myself having intercourse with strange women and even animals.
“I worship at the Mountain of Fire and Miracle church in Abuja, but I couldn’t go for prayers or deliverance because I work from Monday to Sunday and there was no time for any other thing. I believe my problem is spiritual because I can’t even explain how I found myself on the tree with a rope to hang myself.”
Asked about the suicide note that was recovered by the police, Elegbede, stated that he could not remember writing the said letter because he had no pen or paper in his room.
“I strongly believe some spiritual forces were behind my problem because while I was in the cell last Saturday, I had a wet dream in which a dog was licking my private parts,” he said.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Mustafa, said the suspect would be arraigned in court after investigation, adding that attempted suicide was a criminal offence.

Ex-Customs Boss, Dikko, Returns N1bn Cash To FG

A former Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, has returned N1,040,000, 000 to the Federal Government.
Dikko, who served as the head of customs between August, 2009 and August, 2015, became the subject of an EFCC investigation last year when the commission established that about N40bn was diverted from the coffers of the NCS under his watch.
The funds were allegedly drawn from proceeds of the seven per cent cost of collection and one per cent comprehensive import supervision scheme.
He was subsequently arrested by the EFCC in June this year but was released due to his poor health.
Dikko’s mansion located at 1 Audu Ogbeh Street, Jabi, Abuja... on Wednesday
However, a reliable source within the EFCC told our correspondent that the suspect had been returning money to the government.
The source added, “So far, Dikko has returned over N1bn. He returned N1bn and then N4m. He is still expected to return more money.”
The EFCC had, earlier in the year, seized a mansion belonging to Dikko located at 1 Audu Ogbeh Street, Jabi, Abuja.
According to the EFCC, the mansion is worth at least N2bn.
Our correspondent, who visited the property, observed the inscription, ‘EFCC, Keep Off!’ painted all over the fence.
A source in the commission said, “The EFCC Act Section 71 (b) gives us the power to commence investigations into the property of any person if it appears to the EFCC that the person’s lifestyle and extent of properties are not justified by law.
“Section 28 says concerning those arrested under the Act, the commission will immediately trace and attach all the assets and seizures of such a person which have been acquired.
“Section 29 permits the assets of a person arrested under Section 28 to be seized by the state.
“Dikko was a customs officer and served for about 30 years. He has to explain where he got the money to buy a mansion of N2bn.”
The ex-Customs CG is also believed to own properties in Dubai and in Katsina, his home state.

PHOTO: Man Arrested For Raping, Impregnating 15-year-old Stepdaughter

A 40-year-old man, Victor Emafolomi, has been detained by the police for allegedly raping his wife’s daughter, Keji.
It was learnt that the suspect was apprehended on Sunday by the police from the Agbado division after the mother of the victim reported the case.
Keji (pseudonym) lived with her mother and Emafolomi on Olukososi Street, Jafa, Agbado, in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Emafolomi was said to have raped Keji on two occasions in October, threatening to kill her if she informed her mother.
It was gathered that the first time she was raped, Keji was at a shop where she was learning hairdressing within the community when her stepfather called her on the telephone to come home to prepare lunch for him.
While the teenager was immersed in the cooking, Emafolomi reportedly descended on her and dragged her into the bedroom.
She said, “That afternoon, he was drunk. He beat me up when I resisted. I explained to him that he was like a father to me, but he didn’t listen.  He used a pillow to cover my mouth and raped me. He said he would kill me if I told my mother about the rape.
“Two days after, he had sex with me again. That evening, he beat me up because I insisted that I would tell my mother when she came back from work. He went out and came back with two men after about 30 minutes. The men stared at me and left. He said they would be monitoring my movement and that if I reveal what he did to me, they would kill me.”
Our correspondent gathered that the suspect left home after the second encounter and did not return until about two weeks later.
“Before the incident, he had warned a boy called Owolabi to stay away from me because he didn’t want us to have a relationship,” Keji added.
Keji’s mother, Taiwo, who told PUNCH Metro said she was abreast of the time her daughter usually menstruated, said she became worried last Tuesday, October 24, when Keji did not do so.
“I took her to a clinic in our area and it was confirmed that she was pregnant. I begged her to tell me who impregnated her, but she refused,” Taiwo said.
After much pestering, Keji was said to have confided in her mother, who reportedly passed out afterwards.
“I was very shocked, but I could not fault the revelation because my husband had abandoned home for some days and there was no misunderstanding between us. I think it was because of what he did,” she added.
However, the suspect, who hails from Delta State, refuted the allegations, saying it was Owolabi, who impregnated Keji.
He said, “I am a driver. I left home because my wife is stubborn; she doesn’t take corrections. I left home to punish her so that she would change for better.

PHOTO: Lagos Hotelier Turns Job Seeker Into Sex Worker

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a hotelier, Victor Obano, for allegedly turning a 23-year-old female job seeker into a commercial sex worker in the Ijegun area of the state.
The police said Obano, who owned Tisa Hotel, allegedly lured the victim, Elizabeth, from Akwa Ibom, promising her employment in Lagos State.
Obano allegedly thereafter turned the job seeker into a sex worker in the hotel.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Elizabeth, a mother of two, reportedly got tired of being a commercial sex worker, and on October 5, told her elder sister on the telephone what she was going through.
The sister was said to have informed the police at the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, leading to Obano’s arrest.
Our correspondent gathered that another accomplice, a commercial sex worker, identified as Grace Edet, who allegedly was Elizabeth’s supervisor, was also picked up by the police.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro at the command headquarters, Ikeja, Obano, who admitted to have brought the victim from Akwa Ibom, said he only assisted her to find a means of livelihood.
He said, “I am the manager of Tisa Hotel in the Ijegun waterside. I am not a human trafficker. It was only this lady that I brought from the village. I met with her father and he explained her predicament. She is 23 years old. She has two kids and she was living a miserable life. So, I decided to get a job for her.
“The police arrested me because I seized her phones. They said I did not want her to contact her family members, but I collected her phone because I did not want her to have an affair with several men.
“It was her elder sister who reported the matter to the police. The victim is with her brother presently. The arrangement was that I would be paying her and she would also hustle in the hotel and send the money to take care of her father.
“The police should let this matter be settled amicably. It is a family issue.”
The accomplice, Edet, told our correspondent that Obano had instructed her to train Elizabeth in commercial sex.
She said, “I have worked in the hotel for some years. I am a commercial sex worker. When the manager came back from Akwa Ibom earlier in the year, he returned with the lady. He handed her over to me, saying I should teach her some tricks of the trade.
“I did not know the arrangement between them. When I asked the lady why she was brought, she replied that she was asked to hustle at the hotel. So, I do not have any fault in the matter.”
A police source told our correspondent that Obano allegedly had more girls he used as commercial sex workers in his hotel.
The state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who paraded the suspects, said the command would not tolerate any form of crime, urging the public to always avail the police of credible information.

HEAR THIS: IF FASHOLA WERE IGBO, HE WOULD HAVE LEFT TINUBU – KALU

A former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, has said Igbo people are better traders than politicians.
Kalu said the lack of understanding of politics and the indiscipline of Igbo politicians were responsible for what he called the political backwardness of the South-East.
He said the political fortune of the Igbo would have been better had their politicians approached politics like the Yoruba.
Kalu said Igbo politicians had a lot to learn from how a former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, and his predecessor, Bola Tinubu, handled their differences during Fashola’s second term.
He said things would have been different if his own successor, Theodore Orji, had the same approach as Fashola.
Kalu, who said most of the Igbo elite were selfish, said the Igbo should blame themselves and not the Federal Government for their woes.
The Editor-in-Chief of The Interview magazine, Mr. Azu Ishiekwene, in a statement of Monday, quoted Kalu as saying this in a recent interview he granted the magazine.
According to Ishiekwene, Kalu told The Interview magazine that, “Let me tell you, there were more problems between (Bola) Tinubu and (Babatunde) Fashola than there were between me and Theodore Orji. But it is the discipline of the Yoruba that kept them at bay.
“The Igbo have no discipline in terms of politics. They are very good traders; they’re good in anything they do, but they don’t understand politics.”
Kalu recalled a conversation he had with President Muhammadu Buhari, where the President wondered aloud “why previous high-profile Igbo appointees had done nothing for the region.”
According to Ishiekwene, Kalu barred his mind on the agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra as well as the travail of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
He also spoke on “his relationship with former President Ibrahim Babangida and former Governor Ikedim Ohakim; the recent statement of former Governor Peter Obi; and allegations that while he governed Abia for eight years, his mother ruled,” Ishiekwene said.
